4.88's! Motive gear in the front and Precision gears in the rear... ooooh they are sooooo nice. What a needed change.. Haveen't got to try them out much yet - but the truck is a whole bunch peppier...
Good deal! You're gonna love that Power! Be easy with them for the first 1000 miles, no towing or romping on the gas from a stop. I know, it's hard to avoid the urge...
The cost was at $1200.00 - parts, labor and all. I stopped in several times to watch the set up and they set the rear end at .005" play. That was good. They really took their time. I did shop around some, but was essentially told by everyone that Volusia drive train was the best in the area. So - I wanted it done right. We adjoin Daytona Beach and this guy does a lot of work on the race cars that do the 24 hour race.
It is tough to not romp it since it is like going from 3.12's to 4.10's (equivalent 3.73 to 4.88 with 37's)
Speedometer is off but here are the rpms at 60 and 70. Speed obtained with hand held GPS.
60 mph = 1950rpm's
70 mph = 2250rpm's
I suspect the mileage will improve from what I was getting 9.4mpg average, around town and pulling a trailer 3 days a week minimum. It won't be lugging any more and working in the correct power range.
Before the gears my truck wouldn't stay in overdrive at any speed above 65 mph, and that is in Florida where it is flat. I did notice that wasn't a problem anymore. I only have about 20 miles on them at this point. Unfortunately, Sunday through Tuesday I HAVE to pull a trailer. Weight at about 3000 lbs. The guy who did the rear end said it would be okay since the longest drive is about 12 miles and all the rest is short drives inbetween stops. I have a lawn and pool service on the side. I can hardly wait to hook up to the trailer because I suspect that is where I will really notice the difference...
