I have a 2000 Exploreer XLT 4x2 with a 5.0 V8. When I start it in the morning it sounds as if the valves are knocking. This was a pre-owned vehical with two previous owners (atleast to my knowledge). The dip stick seems as if it had gotten very hot towards the top and there seem to be some heat burns. I am wondering if the prvious owners had not changed the oil regularly.
I have gone on numerous trips in the truck including driving for about 15-16 hours straight in it and had no problems with it at all.
Is this knocking something that I should look into, or is it not really that big of an issue?
