Bent Parking Brake Bracket

Help! The fool thing is driving me crazy. The fool I'm referring to is the parking brake/hood release bracket. I stepped on the pedal to engage the brake and the whole bracket bent down. I've tried to bend it back up but it won't budge. Is this a common problem? How do I fix this problem?

Also when I use my clutch the pedal squeaks loudly and when fully depressed the steering wheel moves ever so slightly just for a second. The brake pedal squeaks even louder then the clutch. HELP.

You will probably need a new bracket. Unless the bolt just came out of the part where it bolts under the dash. If you need a new one, go to a junkyard and get one from a truck that is from a truck that has an automatic tranny. Means that it probably wasn't used that much!

As for your clutch, check the firewall.....it may be cracked. Good luck!

My steering wheel does that too, when you push the clutch in. Not sure why, but my firewall isn't cracked.. I just heard a 'snap' one day, and my steering wheel started moving with the clutch... not that much though... an 1/8 of an inch or so..

I had a similar problem, where the bracket that the pedal housing bolts into was completely broken. When I applied the parking brake it actually started to tear the firewall. I bought a new bracket from a junk yard - takes forever to get the thing out and you have to completely take apart the dash to get to it. It surprisingly goes in pretty easy but it runs the entire length of the dash board. Then to make it snug on the firewall again, we built a bridge between the two bolts with some 1/8" steel. Drilled it and placed it on before the nuts in the engine compartment. Strong like bull.

The steering wheel column is bolted to the bracket that the clutch and brake pedal crossshaft is attached to. That bracket is bolted to the firewall (to the brake booster), as well as from above (2 bolts) to a piece of sheet metal that comes down from the base of the windshield. Perhaps there is a crack in the bracket--or a broken bolt maybe--and when you push on the clutch pedal, some of the force can be felt in the steering wheel.

Just had the whole dash out to swap that bracket, one for an automatic for one for a manual.
