hello all, i am having a problem cooling down my truck. it would get to about 220 degrees in a matter of 15 minutes of driving so i changed the water pump, thermastat and switched radiators. i went from a 180 to a 160 thermastat, now it starts to get hot when i sit at red lights but when i take off it cools back down. any ideas? the truck is a 82 f-100 with a 351-w , thanks everyone
When it's that hot, it should lock up and pull tons of air through the radiator at a stop light. Go drive it around and get it good and hot. Stop the truck, pop the hood and give the (now hot) fan a spin. If it spins, that's bad...it should be locked up to the shaft.
DanMartin is perhaps correct, my 1977 Ford 350w fan clutch was free spinning but it was'nt as bad, seems those parts don't changed as much when cooling problems happen. I even went as far as a radator flushed and after realizing the solution, changed it, now it runs cool and motor is happy again......
