Talking Nitrous!!!

Im planning on getting NOS for my 4.6L. This way I can get the power I want when I need it (make a HEMI eat my dust ). Maybe like a 100hp to a 150hp shot. Any comments or ideas.

i would say go for it, but with a 4.6L not sure if the engine would hold up to that kind of a shot. my rangers 4.0L (01, 03) ran pretty good on a 75 pound shot. caught a few people by surprise. am hoping to be able to reuse that kit on my 04 fx4 5.4L engine in the future.

I will go to local racing shop and ask them what shot can the engine hold, I dont want to damage the engine, I let you guys know. Hey GMCPLUS03 how much did you pay? Mine will come up to $700 installed. The NOS brand.

my kit for my ranger was a nitrous express single stage ford efi kit. my total package installed was about $2500. i had 3 autometer c2 guages, (fuel pressure, nitrous pressure and exhaust temp guage), a nitrous accessory kit that included the bottle heater, blow down tube, fuel pressure safety shut off switch, purge solenoid, a K&N fipk air box, a superchip blue chip for the computer, straight pipe for the muffler, a g-tech pro guage that monitors torque, horsepower, time trials, etc. i also ran a fuel additive to help icrease the effect of the nitrous. was well worth the money and was as safe as i could make it. the price of the nitrous kit and the accessory kit was just under a $1000 to my front door. almost forgot i also had to put in colder spark plugs due to the platnums being to hot with nitrous and running the chance of burning holes in pistons. am planning to add it to my 5.4 later on, but need a few more miles on the engine.

i thought it was also, got some pretty good discounts on the parts. at least i was able to remove most of the add ons from my ranger when i traded it in so i can eventually put it on my f150.

Keep us posted...I have tossed that idea around as well for my 4.6 (maybe only a 50 or 75 shot for now though). I'm curious how to set it up because I have heard that the fuel system is different than previous years (fuel return line?). Anyone already have a juiced 04-05 f-150? Are you getting a wet or dry kit? Are dry kits safe at lower shot levels? Good luck.

i went with a ZEX dry system for my gt mustang.it's easy to do yourself and cheap-$500.00. from what i've read, the dry systems are safer.

Had a 250 hp NOS system on my '83 F-250 with 460. It held up for 190,000 miles but the NOS wasn't used much. But, this stuff will destroy clutch packs in the tranny and rear-end.

Keep in mind your 4.6 does not have the beefed up tranny as in the 5.4 option!
