I recently started getting an off squeak coming from the front passenger side - it's not the 6.0 engine or a belt - definately coming from the front wheel. It sounds like old WWII tank wheels - a constant whine/squeak as the wheel turns. It seems to go away after driving a bit on the highway (heat?). It is not a dirty breakpad since i rolled down the hill with the engine off and applying the brakes has no affect on the sound. It will stop when you get below about 3 miles an hour. Anything above it does the noise. You guys have any ideas? This just started about 2 weeks ago and is getting on my nerves.

Have you ever solved this problem? Anyone have other ideas? This has just started with my 2003, 6.0L, 4x4 crew cab. I've jacked up the front end, spun the wheels, and no noise occurs. I examined the break pads and they look fine. The problem is identical to Adjordje's description.
Sounds like a noise I had after putting new ball joints in with grease fittings. I didnt have enough clearance between the grease fitting and the ujoint coupler assembly. Everytime the axle turned it was scrapping the grease fitting. Did you have any work done to the front end recently?
Thanks for responding. No, I haven't had any front-end work done on the truck. The only change I made just prior to the noise was new air filter.
The other change is the outside temp. I'm in Charlotte, NC, and winter just began for us. We are now getting 20 - 30 degree temps. I'm wondering if I need to grease something?? I did try greasing all fittings once the noise started, and that didn't make a difference.
Also, I just filled up with diesel the morning it started, and my "water in fuel" light came on for a couple of minutes that day.
Is your vehicle 4x4 with automatic locking hubs? My wifes truck was making what sounds like the same noise you were describing the other night. Also seemed as if 4-wheel drive was not working. We turned around and drove back home because I thought it could be a bearing going out. When we got home I turned the wheel and reached behind to feel if anything was hot. I also pushed a hose tight to it's connection. No more problems after this.
Aren't the automatic hubs vacuum operated? I think there was a vacuum leak which was causing the "whistling noise". Also why the 4x4 wasn't working.

I had a similar noise with my wifes Toyota Tacoma. When it had not been driven (cold) no sqweak. Once some driving (warmed up) a sweaked. Brake Pad. The pads looked fine, however the wear indicater would barely touch the rotor once heat built up (expansion). Drove me crazy until I took off the caliper and could see what was actually happening. As I said the pads looked fine while on the caliper and rotor but I could not see the wear indicater. It was happening to only one wheel. My experience. Hope this helps.
Hi, the dealer figured it out for me - TSB 03-22-2. The squeak would only happen when cold and not everyday. My truck is a June 03 build.
02-03 F-Series Squeal/Squeak from Driveshaft Center Bearing:
Some trucks built after 6-1-02 may exhibit a noise from the center bearing when the bearing seal rotates in the bearing outer race. Use a center bearing manufactured after 6-9-03, indentifiable with a white paint dot, to replace the existing part. Be sure to mark the driveshaft and the yokes they attact to, as well as the two halves of the driveshaft so all parts can be reassembled in their original positions. On driveshafts that require separating the slip yoke to replace the center bearing, lube the splines with teflon grease before assembly. TSB 03-22-2.
adjordje, thank you for the response. I've just brought the vehicle to the dealer this week to have them check out this problem + oil leak + moisture on the transmission housing. They have had the truck for 4 days, and they are still working on it. They diagnose a bad engine seal, bad bearing which caused the noise (although I thought he said wheel bearing so I'll be curious to see if it really was the drive shaft bearing). When I asked about the transmission moisture, he mumbled something about the bearing. Did you have any moisture on the tranny housing? The 36,000 warranty is just about up, so I want to make sure this probably is really solved before I pull out of there.
