Ok. I got a haynes manual and to remove the hub It says " Using suitable pliers, remoce the intermal snap-ring outer clutch retaining ring and the actuating cam body." what the hell is suitable pliers. I tried to get a hold fo it with needle nose plires but cant get it. What did you guys use. snap ring pliers wont work because the ring dosent thave the little holes on it. Thanks.
After you remove the 3 (or 5) screws that hold the hub cover in place, you will find a metal retaining ring that fits into the hub body. This ring holds the hub internals in place. It is usually covered with grease and is hard to see.
I removed this ring with two small screwdrivers. There are no holes in the retaining ring, so you have to pry it out carefully.
Once the ring is out, the hub body should come straight out. You can use a couple of hub screws to help pull it out if needed.
Next item to remove is a lock ring that is installed on the end of the stub shaft. Lock ring pliers work fine since the ring has two holes in it. Then remove 3 washers from the shaft. Keep track of how these washers were installed, because they have to go back in the same way.
With the lock ring and washers removed, the hub's clutch assembly pulls right out. This is all you need to remove to service the hub.
I'm not sure if yours is the same as mine, but the one I'm thinking of is the internal ring that is about as thin as a large paper clip and has no holes or any other way to grab it.
I used a voltage tester to finally get mine out, because it comes to a point, like a needle. If you can find something that comes to a point, maybe you can get it underneath and then work it out. I've taken it out so many times now that it is easy. The first time took me about 45 minutes to figure out a way to get it out.
