tach question.

tach question.

alright guys im new to the diesel world so let me ask yall a dumb question.
where does the tach on a diesel get its signal from?
my tach just kinda floats around and i know its not right but i dont really know where to start looking for the problem.thanks guys.

4 x 4, You feel like you're being ingnored? Well, if you look at you IP housing, on the side opposite the alternator, their (may be) is a screwed in sensor with 2 wires extending out. The wires should be plugged into the wiring harness and feed the signal to the tach.

also I have found that the tach's go out pretty easy. So to check mine I take it out and move it with my finger and it should have more tension the higher it goes up and it should be consistant gain. If you have access to a power supply that regulates voltage you could hook it up to one of those for a true test. Just my experience.
