i was looking for a carb for my 352FE buildup. i was convinced that the e-brock was the way to go but now i see that demon carbs makes a road demon jr and it only costs 30 bucks more then the edel. is there any advatess to the demon carb over the holley and edelbrock? since its more expensive doese that mean more power? how is the relaiblity compared to edel and holley?
any info would be greatly apperciated.
FE66, I have been tossing that around in my head also, Avenger,Demon, Not an Edel tho for my build, I think there just a sporty AFB carb, I have always had good luck with Holleys? some people hate them?
I think I was told in another forum that Mark Artis did a flow test on the Holley and the Demon...And I was told(so take it with a grain) that the holley out flowed and made more HP than the demon? Mark has not told me this personally So?
But to me the Demon is a hands doen a better looking carb! but who see's it with the air cleaner on? Just passing on what I have heard? Russ
I would go with the holley. I got a holley at first but couldnt adjust the darn thing to get it right it was sputtering and running rough, but I got that carb from a dude who said it was old but rebuilt ill bet it was just a carb that needed some work and i got ripped off. The holleys are always the choice of top engine builders and everyone uses them they simply make the most power. Edelbrock carbs dont make as much as holleys and holleys have been around for like 50 years. The road demon is okay but just go with what works. This page should help you in choosing the right maniflod and carb for your applicatuion. Let me know if the link doeseant work.
Well Scoot as nice as the Demon is...I would have banked on the same thing..that they outflowed the Holleys..Thats why I said in my last post (take it with a grain) because I truely dont know? just what I was told..
As far as the Demon goes..they are a much better looking and built carb than the Holley in my opinion...
The Demons do flow more than a non-hp Holley. Its a fact, jack
Mind you, I'm speaking of the speed demons and up. I really have no clue about the flow capabilities of the demon jrs, or the road series. However, due to the differences in how Holley and Demon measure their cfm rating, I'd suspect even those would outflow and equally rated Holley.

Holley's do work well. I bought mine used and just keep rebuilding it for $20cdn every 2-3 years, and never have any problems. I drag raced the truck hard for 2 years and I can still start the truck with 1 pump of the pedal on first startup, and no pedal off warm. Very simple tuning.
I'm gonna suggest something a little different here, the 700cfm Holley TBI fuel injection system. For performance and driveability, it cant be beat. Say you have a flat spot at 2500rpm. It's just, click click click, and you've got it. No screwing around with gaskets, jets, air bleeds, rebuild kits, chokes, or any of that. Just stick it on and all the tuning is done from the cab. It has an O2 sensor so the mileage goes up and makes tuning super easy. Heck, I'll even send my program to anyone that wants a closer starting point for an FE.
With a crank trigger and an MSD box, you can even program in your timing curve. I have yet to do this though. That's coming up on the 390.
Nope, standard 4 barrel intake. Bolts anywhere a Holley would. You'll want to size the system to your application, see here. The 700cfm system is $1350. IMHO it's worth every penny.
I bought a 625 cfm Road Demon to go on the mildly modified, but basicially stock 390 in my 64 Galaxie 500 convertible. I installed it last weekend, but as of today, I have not gotten the car running. Why? When I hooked everything up and leak checked the connections, fuel came pouring (and I mean pouring) out from between the fuel line and the clamping nut that screws into the adaptor on the carburetor. I tried everything I could to stop the leak and nothing worked. So I gave up and called Demon on Monday morning. They said to send them the fuel line and if they found any defect after they examined it, they would send me a new one. I explained that I have a show this Saturday (I do) that I am trying to get the car ready for. I asked if they would send me a new fuel line and I would send them back the leaking one simultaneously. They said ... no. Then I asked if they would let me buy a new one from them and then reimburse me when they get the leaky one back. They said ... no. I had to send them the old one first for them to send me a new one and they would not guarantee that I would get it in time for the show. They said that if I needed it that bad, I had to buy one from a retailer. I said fine, give me a name. I also asked if Summit (where I bought the carb) carried the fule line. They said ... yes. So I called Summit. They were out of stock until August 4. I called the other place Demon gave me they number for and they were out of stock till, you guessed it, August 4. But they had a fuel line made by Mr. Gasket for the Road Demon so I bought that one with overnight delivery.
Also, when talking to the Demon rep I asked a question about adjusting the carburetor. He copped a really bad attitude and was very snide and rude. I hope that he was having a bad day and that my experience was not typical of Demon customer service. If it is, I would certainly never do business with them again.
So, hopefully I can finish the carb install tomorrow with no leaks and get it running and adjusted for the show on Saturday. Then I can give you my opinion of the carb itself.
By the way, I do intend to return the leaky fuel line with a friendly note telling Demon what I thought about their customer service.
Blue, sorry to hear about your ordeal with Demon...I didnt state what I had earlier posted to start a Flame..But I am glad you chimed in to let us know what your going thru!!
I have never ran a Demon! I may? they sure are a nice looking Carb..real nice compared to the run of the mill holleys!!
The only problem I can say.I have had with holleys...was for the dual feed line..some times they dont get both angle's right? and you might have a bowl leaking at the line!
Some off the earlier one's I have had a pin hole in the float and cause it to sink like a diver... But..Thank God..NO fires yet!! Russ
I just think you need to consider all factors when making a major purchase. I too had heard a lot of good things about Demon's quality and performance. Hopefully the customer service guy was just having a bad day. I do agree they are great looking carbs which is why I bought mine. I plan on completing the install tomorrow and will post the results. Wish me luck.
