6.2L Big Block?

Have any of you heard some story that Ford is working on a new V-8? I have heard that it is 6.2L, and some say it will be a Triton design, some are saying that it's an all-new, pushrod design.

Hurricane

I believe it was the Detroit Free Press (you should be able to find it in their archives) that reported Ford was working on an engine labeled, at this time, the "Hurricane", a 6 litre or so all new design. The DFP said companies that regularly contract for Ford were getting in position to bid on supplying parts, but Ford wasn't saying much. This engine is supposed to be cutting edge, with better power output and fuel mileage.

One can hope. I would love to see a new 6litre+ gasser than can rival a chev 6.0 in fuel economy and performance.

I really doubt that it'll be a pushrod motor. And why an all new motor, can't they get 6 liters out of the current 5.4?

I think the 3 valve 6.8L comes pretty close. I do, however, think G.M. was smart keeping the old Chevy Rat motor around. Great engine for marine and heavy truck use. When the Lima went away, so did the gas engine option for the F-800.

Yes, but not as many hp/liter. The Ford is more efficient. Chevy needs the work

one reason for the all new motor is that it is gonna be used in the crown vic and mustang a place where the 5.4 wont really fit to well, its also supposed to have cylinder deactivation. check out the sept issue of motortrend in the news section its has a little on it.
