Choosing a camshaft

I'm thinking about going with a Comp Cams 260H when I have my '90 300
rebuilt next week.
Does anyone have any experience with this one?
The best price I can find is $166.
Any help on this one ?
Thanks,
Anthony

That's the one I'd been eyeing, but Crane has a split duration cam [Part# 503905] that looks a bit more promising. It's 260 on the intake, 272 on the exhaust, made specifically for trucks to improve low end torque. Think it's even mentioned in the "need more power" sticky thread. Comp makes some split duration cams, just not for the 300-6.

I heard that certain camshafts will cause problems on newer computer controlled efi vehicles, you might want to look into that before deciding.

Im going with the 260/272 cam by crane in my build, the comp cam 260 grind has not as much lift! Also going to try 1.7 ratio rockers for added lift, without added duration, and all the other good stuf I can bolt on.

Not sure about the 300-6, but with many motors high ratio rockers are NOT a simple "bolt on" upgrade. Common "extra requirements" include different length pushrods [easy enough to drop in] and clearancing the pushrod journals in the head to prevent binding [not so easy].

Anyone on here ever install higher ratio rockers on their 300? If so what [if anything] extra was required ???

http://fordsix.com/forum/ Some of them are doing it there, there is a thread a bit down under 240/300 forum, its titled: 'can't belive it made that much difference'

For some people its bolt in, some say no... well.. its cheap enough to try, if it does not work, and aslong as I don't dammage something im not into it for that much money.

This is what i would do I would gather up all you motor spec's and call crane cams and ask them what to do. They know a lot more then most fokes, and if your buying a cam they want you to be happy with the one you pick, return buissness is good for them plus word of mouth goes a long way.

Just read thru the thread on fordsix.com, very interesting. Chevy rockers in a ford eh? No wonder I could never find a listing for 1.7 Ford rockers...doh :-)

This definately comes under the "seems too good" heading, but those cheap but effective mods do crop up once in a while. My "todo" list just grew another notch...but don't know if I'll have a chance to try it before the van takes its yearly 4600 mile round trip to Black Rock Desert, NV.

It wasn't quite a bolt on swap for me but I went with roller rockers.

I used Harland Sharp BBC 1.7 rollers. The pedastals were machined down, the rocker stud opened up to 7/16". I used Comp Cams semi-finish 3/8" pushrods cut to a length of 10.275" with ISKY guides that had to be opened up for fit to the rollers.

The Comp 260H Grind cam for the 300 is not a good choice.
The lobe separation angle is a bit on the close side for your application.
110 degrees

A better choice to get a VERY similar cam but with a greater LSA is
Crower 19212 260HDP
112 Degrees LSA
260 deg Intake .442 valve lift / 268 deg. exhaust .448 valve lift*with 1.6 rocker ratio.
Lobe lift: Intake .276 / Exhaust .280
Duration at .050: Intake 202 deg / Exhaust 210 deg
What I plan for my rod.

Check out summit, they're only $143

Of course the Crane 503905 is around $110, a little more rich blooded.

There's the Crane 500511 which would be OK for a very mild cam, but comes in at $220.

My objective is to have a smooth to fairly smooth idle. I want more power of course, but nothing approaching radical. I'll still need the full use of AC, etc.
I guess I'm looking for more torque, up to about 3500 RPM. This Bronco is an auto XLT.
Does anyone have experience with either Crane Cam or any of the Crower Cams mentioned in the previous post?

Optikal illushion has had success with the Crane cam and Automatic trans.

The Crane 503905 has a LSA of 112 deg, but has greater lift and duration than the Crower, so there definitely shouldn't be a problem with the Crower cam.

Either cam will provide a healthy performance increase.

When you choose, remember your fuel mileage will be affected.

I plan on using the Crower since my engine has 215K, and don't feel like pushing my luck with a more radical cam.
Lobe lift on a factory cam is .249
