I was looking around under the X today and saw this chunk of cast iron hanging down from the cross member at the transfer case. It is mounted in rubber, so can I assume it is a vibration dampener? I also found another one at the rear just in front of the fuel tank.... What are theese for? Can I take off the one under the transfer case before I rip it off? It does hang down low even with my lift....
Look further and see if your truck has three big chunks of lead hanging from the exhaust system. Those are really functional as well. Ford engineers must own stock in an ore mine somewhere in Borneo or something.
I have read that these iron blocks are weights used to keep the Excursion from being top heavy. Its a roll-over precaution I guess. I don't know this for sure though, just what I've read.
My wfe cracked up at a lifted pickup we saw the other day ---
