double cardin u joint

double cardin u joint

i have a vibration im pretty sure it in the drive train i checked the rear joint that one is tight i twisted both parts of the front joint there is a small amount of play i was wondering if i should replace and how hard to are they i dont have a press can they be done. while i was under there i saw there was some slack in the slip yoke would the vibration be coming from that how much slack should it have.

There should be no play in the u-joints ! the slip joint problably wasn't lubed and should be with a special grease from Ford.

The double cardigan joint is a pain ,should have a press to do and make sure you mark it in relation to all parts it is balanced as a unit.

the tool makers have this handy dandy tool called a u-joint press, it kind of looks like a giant "c" clamp. don't forget to remove the lock clips before using this tool, might break the yokes, also try to keep the driveshaft in phase (balancing reasons)
