I am having all sorts of weird electrical problems. All started when car radio stopped working after two year old shoved change into the cd slot (Change had been in there for at least a month prior to me removing it). I removed the radio to get the change out thinking that it might possibly work again. Well that didn't happen. Now everything seems to be going. Power door locks, windows and headlights only work when the car is on and the interior lighting doesn't work at all. Could I have loosened something when I removed the radio? or did the change cause a short? I have tried to also replace the fuses to no avail. Warranty is up so any suggestions would be much appreciated before a costly trip to the dealer is necessary.
You will probably have to have some technician trace down where the short is. Are you sure the headlamps are working with the key on? It may be DRLs working and not headlamps. Windows shouldnt work with key off anyway. But the door locks should be working any time except with remote and key on. I tried to find a common denominator looking at the schematics but there are too many inconsistencies.
Could be a short, could be related to the change in the CD slot, could be gremlins. Check for water around the fuse box too. There have been a few reports of problems related to water getting into the area. Other than spending lots of time checking things out yourself (fuses, voltage tester, etc) you'll probably end up paying a dealership to troubleshoot it.
