98 Explorer Searching for Idle
Check engine light is on but I think that is related to another issue with the battery cables.
Question: Is this an O2 sensor, or some other issue? If so is thier an easy test to find out?
Thanks in advance for any help..
Steve
Both times the outside temperature was about 60 and damp. The first time, the next day got colder and the idle was fine. The second time,
the temperature stayed the same for two days, and my truck would not idle above 500. The check engine light came on the second day of poor idling. It stayed on after driving almost 140 miles, idling normal. Thinking it had something to do with the low idle, I got on it very hard a couple of times. The second time, the check engine light when out.
I have always monitored the gas mileage, averaging 17-18 MPG per fillup on regular. After the check engine light scenario, I was only getting 15-16 MPG for three fill ups. For the next fillup, having already ordered a Diablo chip, I purchased 93 octane. I filled up again yesterday and got 19.4 MPG on that tank. I cannot explain it, but I hope the chip upgrade betters the most recent MPG.
Good Luck
