I have a '93 F350, 460 CID, 2WD, AT. First, the cruise control stopped working, then the speedometer starting acting flaky - I would be driving along at around 45MPH, and then the speedometer needle work drop down and then back up rapidly. Next the ABS light started to turn on, and sometimes go off if I turned off and then turned the truck back on. Finally the overdrive button lite does not come on if I turn off overdrive, although it is turning off overdrive. Does it sound like a main computer is failing, or is a coincidence that everything is going at once? The truck seems to run fine otherwise.
One thing the speedo, cruise, and possibly the abs have in common is the speed sensor. See if you have a sensor screwed into the rearend housing. Take it out and see if it has metal shavings on it.
Is it the sensor sittng on top of the differential? How do you remove it? I took out the bolt that is holding it but I can't figure out how the remove the sensor. It moves around but it wouldn't come out, I didn't want to use too much force on it.
The part you can see, does it look like this? If so, it looks like it just pulls out with a little bit of wiggling. I remember what I have read in books and what guys have said on here about this problem, but I have never taken one out myself.
I finally got the sensor out, and it looks different than the one in the picture that you posted. The one in my truck is much shorter. I ohm'd it out and it is open. I checked a few of the local auto parts stores late Saturday and none of them had it (they did have one like you posted tho'), and they said that they could not order it either, so my next stop is a Ford dealer on Monday.
Thanks for the info,
Mike
