my sons 1969 f-250 ranger with 390 will not start, spins over but no spark just changed points, rotor, dist.cap, wires and condenser. does anyone know why it wont fire? has mallory#2555301 dist. thanks
Does the coil produce spark? Try that. Make sure you have the coil hooked up correctly. Are your points not opening? That happened to me once. Let me know if that was it.
Are you getting power to the coil? Remember, the points only complete the circuit to ground. See if you get voltage at the coil when the key is turned on.
From what you have described (cranks but not starting, changed points/wires/capNrotor/etc and power to the coil) it sounds like between the coil and spark plugs. Did you replace the coil to cap plug wire? Is the neg wire from the coil connected to the distributor? Is the springy metal tab on the rotor making contact with the cap? You need 3 basic things to make it run. Fuel Compression and Spark. Good luck! Maybe upgrade to electronic ignition?
had the same basic problem the other day. Follow this post psonnier's post and then goto psonnier post (6th Post) and follow it to check your points. I had spark at my coil wire that went on the dist. cap but as soon as I would put it on the cap and test the other end of a plug wire, nothing. It was my "new" spare set. They where new out of the box. But they had been sitting in my engine comparment box for maybe a year. After I replaced them she fired right up. Looked at the problem set to see if I could spot something wrong and I couldn't. They where just a bad set.
I hope this helps.

Try a continuity tester on all wires. Might have a broken or cracked wire inside insulation. I once bought a set of wires that made my car run terrible. Popped the hood after dark, and you could trace the path of every plug wire by the flashes.
yes thanks to all the awesome people here it started, 69 f-250i think i was not seeing the points gap clearly but thats all my cousin did was reset the points after everything i replaced thanks again!

Here is my first post to help you out. Maybe you couldn't read it correctly. Some of us know what we are talking about.
The coil does produce a spark, but I'm not sure I'm testing it properly. How would you go about it? Also, I am using a pertronix ignition so there are no points.
A Pertronix still has to be set to the proper gap, even if it only gets done once and for all. Did you do that? If so, pull the coil wire from the distributer and put it near the block. Have someone crank the engine. You should see lots of sparking.
