I'm looking for a tilt bed set up for my 96 f250, there is the one kind that is air and basicly bolts in to the truck easily. I want something that will be hiden and have my stock bed still. I don't want a dump body or anything like that. Does anyone know of a website for some makes of these? Air or hydraulic it doesnt matter. Thanks
northern tool has a setup. a guy just sold one on ebay for 635 plus shipping. it was tempting but bad timing for me. like the idea of it being hidden and using youre original bed. here is a link.
sweet, I was looking for those on that site but couldnt find them last night. Thats still cheap at 849 since the air one is 2749 and a dump insert is about 1700-2000. I was reading and some people said it will beat the crap out of your bed after so long because of all the weight where as a insert doesnt take support out of the bed. Any thoughts on this? Also has anyone used those ones on northern tool? Are they a bolt in deal?
just starting to investigate it myself. northern has a kit for my truck, 2000 f250, so that should be a bolt on. i think all kits need the hinges welded. the kit for youre truck is a universal. so probably means some fabricating. there is some interesting things on ebay. here is one link that for the price its worth taking a look at. i emailed one of the buyers to see if it worked. havent heard back yet.
here is another link to a guy selling hydraulic kits. i contacted him and he offers a universal kit for a pick up for 775. he sent me instructions. lots of fabricating though.
I dont like the idea of the exhaust one, doesn't look like it will work at all. Who knows though.
I emailed northern to see how much fabrication is required. I watched them install the air one on that trucks show and it was a bolt in deal pretty much. As long as theres no cutting I'm ok with the one from northern, i'll just have my friend weld what i need since i can't well that great yet.
'bout 16 years ago, i helped my brother in law put a hydraulic type on his GMC. that thing never died; as a matter of fact, the truck died, and he re-fabricated the system to his new GMC truck. (he is a master fabrictor and builder). and it's still in use today! the truck bed has been removed and replaced with a flat bed only out of neccessity. i don't know if things have changed, but we had to lift the bed to re-fuel. we did a lot (a lot) of hauling and it never failed. the look of envy from others at the refuse dump was worth it alone. sorry i don't have the name of the manufacturer, but it was hydraulic, not an air bag.
good luck
I just purchased a tilt bed kit for my 2003 F250 supercab 4WD with an 8 foot bed. I saw the add in Northern tools and found what appears to be the same kit though Indianvalleytrailers.com for $798 plus shipping. That ended up to be $910 to my door. The kit supposedly will lift 4000lbs in the bed and tilt to 45 degrees in 10 seconds and is powered electrically. I will let y'all know what happens. In fact, I was doing a search on tips and traps when I found this thread. I use/abuse the truck for work and farm use and need to move a LOT of dirt. I just could not see buying and maintaining a dump truck. We'll see if this conversion kit is what it is supposed to be. Anyone been there...done that? :-)# (old school grahpics with beard)
