Ii am having trouble with the 4x4 on my 2000 4x4 psd superduty. when I turn **** into 4x4 the a/c swaps to the refrost and then itdoes not go into 4x4. Ii have the auto locks. Ii know that what is happening is a vacume thing but why is it doing that? please help
Sounds like a vacuum pump. It is driven by the serpentine belt and generates vacuum pressure for your A/C vents & automatic hubs. It is located underneath the A/C compressor.
I have the same problem, vacuum seems to be good when I'm in 2WD, but when I put it into 4WD it locks in, but the hubs occasionally fail, and the air goes to defrost. I'm wondering if one of the vacuum hub actuators is leaking and causing a vacuum loss. I always just manualy lock in the hubs and deal with the defrost.
yes red-stroke i also have one on the passanger fenderwell you can hear it running will look under the a/c compressor. ? do we have bowth ore one or the other.
My 4x4 problem is that when I put the **** into four low while in neutral with my foot on the brake I get a grinding noise. Four high works fine but I have to get out and turn the hubs to engage now. I think my problem is the vacume line seals.
I probed around on mine today with a vacuum guage and found out that it applies vacuum to the hubs for about 20 seconds when you first switch it into 4 wheel, and then nothing. I checked the electrical signal to the solenoid valve, and it has the same thing, signal for about 20 seconds when you first switch it in. Does this make sense to anybody? I'm thinking maybe an electrical problem. I would think that it should have electrical signal and vacuum whenever the switch is in 4 wheel.
