I like driving my '03 6.0L Excursion but I am getting pretty sick of manufacturing defects that take me back to the shop where I can either sit and wait or pay for a rental. In addition to the usual fuel system problems that have left me high and dry, I just got my second recall on this truck in 12 months. This one is for a loose ground stud on the engine block. I called Ford and asked if they would be paying for a rental. The kid on the phone took 5 minutes to research the issue and came back to me and took (no kidding) over a minute to recite a script of how well I was being taken care of and how the recall was in my interest on his way to telling me that I would get no help from Ford on the cost of a rental to minimize the downtime that I would experience to get their problem fixed.
Is there any reason in the world to buy another Ford product?
Petrops, I get frustrated also. My 03 Ex only has 2700 miles on it and has been in 6 times now and we've only owned it for 5 weeks now. Currently is getting a new rear end. I have always got a loaner or rental at no charge to me. I understand your frustration but perhaps your local dealer is part of the problem with poor customer service issues? Mine won't be back till Thursday on the rear end thing and I'd still buy another one. If you buy a chevy trust me it'll happen too. Good luck hope it gets better for you.
The dealer has been pretty good in my case and I can't really hold them responsible for quality issues at Ford. I am just really ticked at the lack of support by Ford for those of us who use our rigs for work and are unproductive because we have to spend time waiting for a problem that Ford created. They suggested that I ask the dealer to give me a break on the rental which is sort of like asking someone else to pay for their mistake.
I'm just ranting but I just don't expect to pay north of $40k and then be told over and over: "Ooops we got it wrong, do you mind taking time off of work to bring it back and to wait around while we TRY to fix it?"
I know that if I buy a Chevy I may get the same (or more) level of qulaity issues.
I also know that if I buy a Nissan or Toyota I will probably get fewer problems! Until now there haven't been options in the heavy duty division but things are changing so look out Ford!
I think you can purchase a rental agreement plan as well as get a rental if you have a Ford ESP plan. The Ford ESP provides that rental service for repairs conducted under normal warranty or extended warranty, so if you have a 3 year extended plan on top of your 3 year normal warranty the rental plan is for the entire 6 years. Our dealership has about 10-15 rentals at any given time, but if 30 people come in needing one naturally we cant provide it to all of them. A lot of the time our salesmen will give up thier demo for a day. I dont think a person who spends 25K for thier car feels any less entitled to a rental than a person who spends 50K. Our dealership provides a shuttle to and back from work also. We do what we can within the limits of practicallity. We simply could not afford to have 50 or more rentals on hand.
Many dealers wont give up a demo or rental if the repair is a same day service, which most recalls qualify under.
