Changing Spider Gears
I have a 96 f150. I just bought a new ring and pinion and going from a 3.08 to a 3.73. I bought the 8.8 ring/pinion used and came from a mustang the guy also gave me a trak lok limited slip carrier, but since it came from a mustang it is 28 spline and my truck is 31 spline. My question is can i swap out my spider gears from my old carrier and put in the trak lok or will it not work since the Limited slip has clutches or do i need to buy a spider gear set? Please help i am changing ring and pinions on thursday.

No it's not going to work. The Mustang has different size spider gears an pin (Mustang's 3/4" and truck has a 7/8" pin) and the side gear for the truck will not have the splines for the clutches. The Mustang side gear has the clutch spline but the wrong axle spline (28 to the truck 31).
