Dash Fire
I'm new at this so bear with me please. A friend of mine has a 97 EB and the dash went up if flames. I have been looking for any info to how this happened. It looks like from the radio or the climet control area that the fire started. If any body has had a simuler problem please leave a massage so I can start looking at it.

Yes I have heard of this. Actually heard it from Ford Motor Company in a letter. I own a 95 EB and have the electronic message center in the console. Ford sent me a letter advising about message center fires due to improperly installed trailer towing harnesses (aftermarket). The turn signals/brake lights sensing circuits get overloaded and overheat. A work associate had a problem with dash components/light sockets melting while towing a boat. I believe his was an XLT without the message center. I provided the letter to him to make a copy and now I can't find mine. I will hunt it down if you really need it. I scanned the Recalls and can not find anything on the issue.
I blew off the letter because I ordered mine with the trailer towing package which included a factory harness.
Was he towing when this happened?
