I know this a long shoot but what could be some causes for an AOD to stop shifting?
The vehicle is an '85 F150 with a rebuild on the tranny less than 3000 miles. Sense I was not the owner at the time of the rebuild I can only go by his word and the receipt he kept.

if it is 2 wheel drive then you can easily do it. Just remove the extension housing and the governor is mounted on output shaft counter weight.
if it is 4 wheel drive then it gets tougher since you'll have to remove the transfer case and transfer case adapter.
There are 2 big phillip screws that holds the governor in place. make sure you check and marked the location since they can be install in 2 ways but the holes for ATF fluid transfer only goes in one way.
