Tired AOD?

I know this a long shoot but what could be some causes for an AOD to stop shifting?

The vehicle is an '85 F150 with a rebuild on the tranny less than 3000 miles. Sense I was not the owner at the time of the rebuild I can only go by his word and the receipt he kept.

Well, I installed a new rod (thanks to some of your instructions from a previous post) but I didn't know what else could be wrong. So, you say a possible governor sticking? Is that something your average shade tree machinic can correct?

if it is 2 wheel drive then you can easily do it. Just remove the extension housing and the governor is mounted on output shaft counter weight.

if it is 4 wheel drive then it gets tougher since you'll have to remove the transfer case and transfer case adapter.

There are 2 big phillip screws that holds the governor in place. make sure you check and marked the location since they can be install in 2 ways but the holes for ATF fluid transfer only goes in one way.

So once I remove the governor, it's just a matter of replacing it?

yes, just make sure the surface is clean and your hands are clean because governor are finicky to any tiny dirt.

don't forget to get extension housing gasket while you're at!
