The specification sheet for the Torqshift will give you the torque rating but that is [after] the torque convertor which multiplies the flywheel torque.

The general consensus of opinion on most of the technical forums is that the stock torqushift will handle 1,200 ft. lb. of torque in an empty truck.

A lot of the ideas you have gathered are simply wrong. Do a search on this Forum and some of the other technical forums and you will find the answer.

Multiplied torque to the transmission input and ourput shafts and all the clutches and gears in between is the torque the trans must be able to handle. You may be getting engine torque output and transmission load capability confused.

One of the main advantages the allison has is the capablilty to upgrade with aftermarket parts there isn't alot available for the torque shift at this time. If your planning on running alot of power I would suggest the Allison with a few upgrades to the torque converter and some clutching until they come out with something to help the torque shift."

I don't see anything on the Suncoast or the BTC site about the Torqshift. They only mention the 4R100.

If I add a Transgo kit ($200 on Ebay) to the Allison I can run Edge Juice Level 5.

If I want to run Edge Juice Level 5 with the Torqshift what do I have to do to get it to last and to shift right?
Name it, I would like to know
what do you do for a living...curious

This quote is from Gregg Evans (Factory Tech) in reference to the 4R100:

"It's rated for 1000 lb/ft at the geartrain, but the converter multiplies torque at a factro of 1:2.13, so safely about 500 lb/ft at the flywheel. The torque multiplication decreases as RPMs increase, it's hard to explain, but short answer is 500 pounds at the flywheel, give or take a few."

That is just downright wrong. No offense to you, but the source of that information is totally wrong. The basics of what he said are correct but the 4R100 WILL, and I mean ABSOLUTELY WILL handle ALOT more than 500 ft-lbs. My uncle has a 7.3 (525ft-lbs STOCK!) with a 125 horse, 240 ft-lb flip chip that he runs on full blast towing a concrete pump. He has a totally stock transmission that has 72,000 miles on it (and that was the last time I saw him, about a month ago) and not a single problem out of it. That is hooey.

If you want I'll ask but they do a lot (I'm guessing) of business with Ford owners and since he seems to give an advantage to the Allison I didn't feel it would be considerate to him to make his private message public. Of course, this was one person's response and the official statement from the company would most likely be much more balanced.

I'm definitely not in the automotive business if that's what you're getting to. I'm just a guy that likes to go faster than the next while spending as little money and time as possible.

You can check that souce. Gregg is probably the most knowledgable person on the planet when it comes to the 4R100.

Now my statement [is] rather extreme but you'll find that you won't be able to argue with it.
