Question Fuel Pressure

Shouldn't the fuel pressure remain in the line from your fuel pump to your carb after the engine is shut down? I'm refering to a mechanical pump.
I've been having trouble losing prime after a short while that the engine is off. After it was off a short while, I noticed today that there was no gas in the see-thru filter thats attached just before gas enters the carb. It started but as soon as the gas that was in the carb was consumed, It starved and shut off. I had to go thru the act of priming it with gas to get the fuel up to the filter again. What do you think? Bad fuel pump!!?

Would it shut off as soon as the gas you primed it with ran out. If not and the fuel pump was pumping then I kinda doubt it's the pump they usually work or don't work, they don't gradually go out.

Red face Fuel Pressure

Hello,
Thanks for the response! The pump will not pump gas up to the carb without priming the carb with gas! When you shut off the engine, gas runs back down the line towards the pump. It doesn't maintain any pressure in the line when the engine is off. It seems the pump can't get the gas up to the carb without being primed. I've checked the line and filter and they are clear.
I've checked pump prices and they are pretty cheap, so I might get one and see if that takes care of it.
