Why Did I Clean My Engine?
I have 1996 XLT and recently had the engine professionally cleaned(big mistake). When I picked it up it ran rough for a short time and the "Check Engine Light" came on. After a few miles the engine cleared up and runs fine but the light is still on. Did something get wet and if so, what?

If you don't have an OBD-II scanner to clear the light, just disconnect your batter for about 15 minutes to clear it. If the problem has been fixed, the light will stay off. If the problem is still there, the light will come back on once whatever routine it went through the first time has been repeated. There are several codes that take several successful complete driving cycles to clear the CEL. A complete driving cycle involves starting with a cold engine that hasn't been driven for at least 8 hours and driving it for several city miles followed by several highway miles. It could take several days before your light goes off once it determines the problem has been fixed. The quickest way is to clear it yourself and see if the CEL comes back on. If it does, look under your hood to see if they might have knocked something loose.

my sister has a 96 escort... she's been to two dealerships about the check engine light but now she just ignores it. funny thing is one cold winter several years ago it did start running rough and i took it to the dealer who just restarted the computer but since then they've been unable to figure out what the hell is wrong so they just tell her its a wire.
