Have a 53 F100 V8 Flathead that runs and idles perfectly. However, when I rev it up it cuts back and lacks power. Have 8V bat., new coil, plugs, points, condenser and new graphite plug wires. Also have new fuel pump and have rebuilt Carb. Points are set to exactly .014. Compression is 90 Psi for all cylinders. Are the graphite plug wires a problem? Should I take the carb back down and check something?
With 90 lbs compression it would idle like a dream (balance a quarter on the running motor) but when it comes to pulling power at the top of the power band it would run out of pull. IMHO
If it occurs under load, I would suspect that the power is getting past the pistons because of worn rings or through valves that don't hold pressure due to worn seating surfaces and/or weak springs.
If it falters with increasing RPM in neutral, I would suspect a fuel line or fuel pump problem, as Jag suggested when asked if you had checked the fuel pressure.

My electric fuel pump runs at 4.5 psi. If you have a clogged fuel filter or screen, then the pressure will be ok at idle and drop way off as you rev the engine. So far, I'm thinking fuel filter plug. John
4.5 is correct as jagred54 says However it needs to be checked at 900 rpm in your case. The other check you need to make is it should produce 1 pint in 45 seconds or less. Because your post says you have a new full pump and it "cut backs or lacks power" at high RPM I jumped to the only 90 lbs compression It should be 130 psi I believe that is the problem as stated by STEV8E Does the draft tube smoke when your losing power????
Can you crank your starter for 45 seconds without overheating it? Generally, when having difficulty starting a flathead, how long can you crank it and how long should you wait between cranks?
I have used a "nurse bottle " ie: run the engine with another source of fuel it's very easy to do gravity feeding. I have a plastic sports bottle with a hose on the cap it's perfect for other uses as well.
