460 Torquer Project

My son and I are "restoring" a 77 F150. I would like to drop in a 460 for a little extra "oomph" Back in the day I would have dropped in a 429 CJ cam, ring and valve job, and been done. Any tips on a particular "modern" cam/piston compression combination to use for this project. It will be used mostly on the highway, 35" tires, 3.50 gears NP 435 4 spd.

Thread moved to 385 engine series forum.

Although the truck is a 77 ,the topic is about the 460 engine .

Lot's of good info here in the 460 forum on modest builds. Go through the post history. It usually comes up at least once a week.

9.5:1 pistons, a good valve job and a Compcams 4x4 extreme cam (235) with a edelbrock intake and 750 Holley makes a nice running motor that idles smooth and runs 87 octane all day long

Torquer project

Thanks for the heads up. Seems like I recall seeing different combinations of cams/compression ratios on this site, but cant seem to find them now...
