Powerstroke swap

I am looking for anyone who has completed a engine swap from an 7.3 IDI to a 7.3 psd. Also from an auto to a Zf 5 or 6 speed. I just want to be prepaired when my engine goes craknshaft up on me. Thought it would be an interesting thing to see an 89 with a psd and a 6 speed . just exploring my options while I still can.

i would like to know the same info.i just started checking in to this and so far ive been told you have to have the dash panel out of a psd and the entire harness.i was told it was way to much trouble to even be feasible.

I have to agree with 4x4man514. The cost associated with putting a psd in would be prohibitive. You could buy a PSD equiped truck for about the same money.

Sorry for not really helping. Unless you get a donor truck with everything you need for under $2k, I wouldn't attempt it.

I would cost alot, and take alot of time. I would just buy a used PSD, it is hard putting a ECM Diesel in place of a IDI. I wish you luck !

Because of all the sensors tied in to the computer you would wind up changing a lot more than the engine and tranny.

First step is rip almost every wire out of your truck, then the dashboard, rear axle, tranny, transfer case, brake and throttle pedals and motor.

Don't forget to add about 8" to the front of the grill area for the aftercooler install.

Now add the clutch, brake and throttle pedals and cut the hole in the floor for the six speed shifter.

Now you go rip all the above out of the powerstroke truck and make it fit back in yours.

Then you are done as long as you hooked everything up right.

If you can find a donor truck with a good cab just pull your's and then get the engine and tranny off the frame, swap in the PSD, and drop the other cab and harness on. 2 guys can get at least 3/4's of the job done in a weekend. But you basically need a good donor that has a smashed rearend.
