Overheating
I have an '84 Bronco II 4x4 with the 2.8L carb. engine and C5 trans. About 2 weeks ago it started overheating. At an idle it will stay between 180 and 190 dependeing on how hot it is here in Cali. As soon as there is a load put on the motor the temp. shoots up to 220- 230. It has a new water pump, all new hoses, new Griffen aluminum radiator, Flex-a-Lite electric fans, and a good Autometer temp. guage. Going up trails it everheats fast, but coasting down the mountain it runs 160. Oh yah, that's both with, or without a thermostat. Anyone ever have or hear a similar problem?
Is your waterpump turninig under a load? It sounds like you got a bad water pump and it not leting the water circalate under load,or you got something stoped up real bad.Do you hav an aux cooler on the tranny?if not you need one,the bigest that will fit your truck.Let us know what you find.
I put a auxilary tranny cooler on it when a changed radiators. Without the AC condensor in front you can put any one you want. I took off the EGR vavle and made a blockoff plate for it and it helped the cooling problem a little but it still gets too hot for me.
hmm...only other thing that I can think of is your belt could be slipping. Check and make sure you have good tension and that the wear is normal. Replace if needed.
