i just got home after doing a 0-60 run in my 99 3.0L ranger (which wasn't very impresive so i'm not going to tell you waht it was, hehe) and then i came into my driveway and while idling up the driveway i hear this high pitched squealing sound coming front the driver's front wheel, only when its moving, and it does it without pressing the gas, so its not the engine.. it only does it when moving over about 5mph. my dad said its probably the brakes, what do you guys think?
yep, that'd be the brakes I bet. Does the sound change when you hit the brake? I think sometimes the caliper can get stuck in the engaged position; not sure if it needs to be fixed or replaced.
Just another option to consider if it turns out that your brakes arent the problem.
Its not unusal to get a high pitched whine from the front wheels on 4x4s with a pulse-vacuum hub system.
My 00 4x4 drove me nuts until I read on hear about the hubs squealing because they may be "dry". I hadnt driven in 4x4 since I moved back the city and therefore the hubs had dried out a little.
For the next 2 weeks or so I made a point to switch in and out of 4x4 whenever its was convenient, and the noise went away after a while.
Boy was I relieved.....
Just one to consider.
