I bought this truck a couple months ago and every once in a while on the highway the truck won't go over 2k rpms. It just bucks and bogs down with more gas. This was only happening every 100 mile or so. If I turn the key off and restart everything is fine. Also in neutral the engine revs all the way with no problems
Recently the truck started doing it ALOT more. almost constantly.
I have never had the problem in town that I know of, but it might be hard to tell since I rarely go over 2k in town.
does anyone have ANY more input on this? I was thinking maybe its the fuel pump. Does this truck have two fuel pumps since it has two gas tanks? Are the pumps in the tanks? I was thinking I only use the rear tank so I could just see if only using the front tank would stop the problem
same exact problem? Did it reset once you restarted? Also it doesn't seem to happen until the truck is nicely warmed up... like 40 miles.
I have a new fuel filter, just need to buy the tool to install it.
Thanks
Sounds like the same problem. When it was warm it would cut out and hesitate, sometimes just die. after cooldown it would run fine. On another vehicle it was the fuel pump but it would just stall once it warmed up there was no cutting out or any other warning.
To answer a couple of your questions, the '92 truck has one fuel pump in each tank. There is no external pump like on the '89 and older trucks.
I agree, it sounds like fuel pressure. You could test it with a gauge, but that may or may not show a problem.
The big question is: does it happen on both tanks? If so, then it's a problem with the fuel filter or possibly a clogged line in the system. If it's only a problem with one tank, then you probably have a weak fuel pump. Fords are famous for furl pumps slowly dying.
I tried the front tank today and the truck wouldnt run at all with that tank on. I bought the truck a couple months ago so i'm guessing that tank is just not working... not sure why. I did put a small amount of gas in.
Sounds like your fuel pump is dead or clogged ? I had that prob on my `88 F 150. It had the xtra fuel pump on the rail under the drivers side , and wire chafing was the culprit. Same thing , would bog down , then kick in. I was puzzled , and after further close inspection , I found the wire , main power was grounding on the rail from time to time.
Also , one other time , the conection at the top of tha tank came loose , and the fuel pump again would kick in/out.
Don`t know if any of this helps, your `92 don`t have the xtra pump.

good luck!
that wouldnt explain why it starts working with a simple restart
