Question Carb Kit Price!!!

My truck is a 1981 F-100 Ranger, 6 cyl, 1 bbl carb. Does anyone have any idea why the carb kit for this carb runs $35 compared to about $12 for any other 1 bbl Carb. What could be so different?? Could it be because maybe it's tied into the computer? Is that what they call a feedback carb?
I wanted to rebuild it because if it sits for awhile I have to prime the carb with gas to start it. After it starts it runs fine so it gets enough fuel from the pump, It apparently drains back out through the needle valve? In addition to the question above, does anyone have any suggestions as to why it has to be primed?

An 81 should not be a feed back carb - check your parts guy!
