I pulled the boat (3500 lbs) to Table Rock lake for a few days R&R, approx. 600 miles roundtrip, no problem getting there but when I got home late at night and backed into the driveway the tranny started belching fluid. There had been no slipping, no unusual noises or any indication of a problem. Next morning I crawled under and it looked like it was coming from the front seal. It took 5 quarts to top off, I started it and there was no more leak. Took it to the car wash and cleaned it up... has been dry for the last 3 days. Here's the question...
Think there's any serious damage? Aren't EB's with tow package supposed to have an external transmission cooler? Seems to me that high temp would be the only thing that would drive the pressure up high enough to blow 5 quarts by the seal... shouldn't the cooler protect against that? What would you do if it were your truck? I called a transmission repair shop and they said it needs new seals to the tune of $750 (I don't think so!). It has about 130K on the clock and it's been at least 30K since the fluid was changed.
Did you look in the grille area to see if it does have a transmission cooler? I have an EB that has no cooler and the single row radiator. It has one small cooler for power steering but not the larger trans cooler. Obviously it doesnt have heavy duty tow package. But one could install a hitch and harness and one would believe it has a HD trailer tow package when it doesnt. If its not leaking or slipping it looks like you got lucky. You might want to change the fluid if it got burned though.

I had the same occur on f350 due to overheating after long drive then backing (produces a lot of heat). I changed fluid the next day and drove the truck with the same trans for 20000 more miles before selling.

My EB has two small coolers, one for the power steering and the other for the transmission. When I checked underneath after drving around for about an hour today there was one small drop of tranny fluid at the torque converter access plug. It hasn't lost much fluid because the level still reads full at the dipstick. I guess my only recourse at this point is to change fluid and filter and keep an eye on it.
