I have a overheating problem with a 03 that has 22,000 on it . Unloaded no matter what speed or driveing conditions the truck will b fine. When I put a 7200 lb load on it , pull a long grade, in third gear (overdrive off), at about 45-60mph with or with out ac it will heat up to 250-260 degrees. I have a after market guage set so I know what the reading is. The stock guage will bury itself and the check guage lite will come on. It does not go above 260 and cools down real fast after the grade. If I pull a equilly hard or harder grad that may cause me to go into second gear 30-45mph it will not heat up the same, maybe to 230. I do have a preditor set on 60 hp and full guages plus eng temp and no other mods. Ford has had the truck 3x and found nothing. They also say unless they can verify they will do nothing as per Ford. Everything on the truck appears to be fine, I have checked under the hood while the guage is high and there is no sounds, smells or anything that would indicate the truck was really hot. Ford says if was overheating it would through a code and the fan clutch is computer controled as I have advise them I do not hear the clutch kick in.
Can the preditor be causing this and should I really worry if the temp goes to 250-260 for awhile then back down???

What surprises me is that you say you never hear the fan kick in and it gets cooler at a lower gear. Seems to me it would get even hotter pulling a load like that.
No matter what the case may be, you should be hearing that fan!
Question to Ford Tech's: Isn't there and Output Diagnostic Test Mode in the scanners where you can manually turn on the fan to see if it works?
When I'm running in third gear my egt's are around 1000-1150, but when I'm in sec gear I can control my egt's to about 800-1000. I'm wondering if the egt's could be causing this. I'm still real new to the psd scene.
