Ignition woes...I think?

I recently purchased a non-running 70 F700 with the 330 2V engine. It had been sitting for a year, or so I'm told. I can not get the truck to start. The best I can do is some carb puffing and a backfire. Heres what I know.

The previous owner changed the points, condenser, cap, and rotor. He managed to put 1 of the wires back to the correct clyinder assuming they run 1,2,3,4 front to back on the passenger side 5,6,7,8 on the driver's.

I have fuel and spark.
Compression is 1)120 2)110 3)125 4)95 5)125 6)120 7)125 8)100
Firing order is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 counter-clockwise.
Verified TDC and rotor orientation and corrected the wires.
Gapped the points to .017 and cleaned the plugs and gapped to .034 . Wires are not brand new but look good. Does anyone know what the resistance should be?
I have moved the distributer from one end to the other with no luck.

Any ideas? Carb issue perhaps? But seems like ignition? Weak coil? Where should the dist. be, roughly of course, on these motors since there is quite a bit of adjustment.

Thanks for any help.

Could be a bad condensor, or your ballast resistorcould be bad, or it may be that carburetor...If you're running points, it could e a resister plug your are using. Points type engines will not run right with resistor plugs in them, or you may have some bad fuel in your fuel tank.....Janet

I would check your coil, check the connections. I had similar troubles with my engine, wouldn't start very well. It turned out to be a loose wire to the coil.

A coil problem could be possible as was said, but, i ran into a 370 CI ford bobtail truck once and the guy tried everything in the world, what we found out was that the slide through pin that held the gear on the bottom of the distributor meeting the cam, had somehow came loose and the rotor did not turn when the engine was turned over, just a thought...Other than that i would take a test light and make sure all your primary wires were getting fire at the ends.or maybe take that coil wire off and check the ends and inside the cap where it plugs in, and the coil end may have moisture or corrosion....Janet
