Adjusting Brakes - Forgot how

Hey guys -

I can't remember if the spur wheel needs to be rotated downward or upward (from dust shield side point of view) in order to tighten up the brakes.

thanks,

-aaron

it should only turn one way, and that way tightens.

The spur can be turned both ways, with a screwdriver through the access slot, on all four wheels (a different feel going up than going down, though) It was like that on my '70 Bronco and the rear wheels of my '66 Mustang as well. The direction they have to be turned is just one of those things I haven't committed to memory...I'll just go all the way down and try it, then all the way up and try it, if necessary.

Dusty is technically correct, though usually you can get em to turn both ways with some coaxing. The star wheel goes down to loosen when viewed through the access slot. There is a autoadjustor on the other side of the wheel, a ratchet of sorts, that tried to keep in from going that direction. A small screwdriver can be intserted through the access hole, and out to the other side, and then pushes the autoadjustor thing (I think its called a pawl) away from the star. Once it is disengaged, you can turn the thing´-- theres a special tool made for it, looks kind of like a two ended bent chizel. But a short stubby screwdriver can work too.

A viewed from rear: Drivers side = clockwise, Passenger side = counterclockwise. TO LOOSEN!!!
