Cool emission controll

i have recently baught an 80 ford f150with a rebuilt 77 400m in it my state has recently adopted an emissions law requiring the vehicle to have all original emissions components working or not it has headers with strait pipes to the mufflers no emission components on it at all the truck originaly came with a 5.0 302 and the catalyst sticker was changed to that of a 4.9 inline 6 when the guy i baught it off of hit a deer how can i find out weather it had emission controlls on it from new? i tried calling every ford dealer in the area and i also called the main plant to find out but no one knows any thing about it if any one can help me out i need it in the worst way. Thank you

p.s. the date on the cab sticker is 1/80 if that helps any

I have a bad feeling that you might be S.O.L. unless you know someone who might be willing to put a sticker on for a "small fee". I'll bet the prior owner new this and unloaded the truck before he had to deal with it. There were already laws on the books that say - if you replace the engine, it must be replaced with an engine of the same model year or newer. If Ford still used the 400 in 1980 trucks, you might have a leg to stand on. One place I would go is Midas and ask them if you can look on their computer to find the exact exhaust components needed. I did this for my 86 and they were very helpful. As far as the rest of the emission stuff goes, good luck.

thanks for the reply and that wouls probably be the best idea il have to try going to midas and checking that out. i guess that mught be why i got a truck that runs excelent for 200 bucks. i was also told they switched from the carbureted 400m to the fuel injected 400m some time in that era i wish i still had my 84 with the no catalyst sticker on it, however there is a ray of hope the local inspection station told me i need to find the valve cover sticker for that engine and rip the other one off i may have found one through osborn reproduction decals. however they show the sticker code and tell nothing else now i need the non emissions sticker code to figure out the right one to get
