steering box and abs module
Small oil drip has been diagnosed as bad steering box, but dealer wants $700 parts and labor to replace with OEM. Said he could do a rebuild, but wouldn't recommend. While I have no pretensions of replacing this myself, is this something I could use from local junkyard? Is F150 box interchangeable? I just want to stop the drip and keep this thing in use as cheaply as possible until I get a pay bonus in November. Truck has been a money pit this year, and I need something I can trust before hunting season starts.
Also diagnosed a bad ABS module. Is this also interchangeable with F150?
Thanks
I can wait on the ABS module - I had one of the front wheel sensors replaced last week, but the light came on again once the next day. I turned off the key and restarted and it hasn't come on since, but it did leave a code about a bad module.
Hate to say it, but it may be time to say goodbye. Over $2000 this year, but only 78,000 miles on it. Ball joints have a little play and will need replacement soon. Leaks in the rain gutter and even water around my legs in a big rain. Rust in the rear quarterpanel. When you lose faith in a vehicle, it is just time to move on.
