I need some help setting up the alternator for my '51. This still has the stock wiring. When wiring the regulator does the wire that go to the ignition switch supposed to send power to the switch or the switch send power to the regulator.
I have it wired like this:
Alternator bat wire to solenoid
Alternator red w/blue strip to regulator
Solenoid to regulator
Regulator to circut breakers
Also does anyone know a part number for a 12v solenoid that is activated by grounding the circut?

Nathan,
Are you using a Ford or GM alternator? I assume it's not an internally regulated alternator since you are trying to connect a voltage regulator to it. What kind of regulator are you using...not the original I hope because that won't work. I am just about finished with my alternator wiring, but I am using a GM internally regulated alternator so the wiring would be a little different.

If you are using a Ford alternator my information says:
From the alternator BAT post - to voltage regulator A & solenoid
STA post - to voltage regulator S
F post - to votage regulator F
Ground - ground
My diagram doesn't show any wires between the fuse panel/circuit breakers and the Voltage regulator, but does indicate a fusible link in the wire to the regulator. Send me an email and I'll scan this and send to you if you desire.
STA Post? Is that off the alternator? If it is I thought that was for the electric choke on the Ford carbs. It's a Ford Alternator. I just want to know if you supply power to the s terminal. Also what is the I terminal for? My diagram doesn't show that.
All of the referenced conn's; BAT, STA, F, & G are for conn's posts on the alternator for wires going to voltage regulator. On this particular diagram the "I" post on the voltage regulator connects to the iginition switch with a wire also going to the coil resistor.

Nathan,
Look at the last picture in my gallery. I think that diagram may be of some help.
