Cab Swaps
Work continues as we are going to rod out my 56 F250. I was wondering if the 54 F100 cab will fit on the 1956 F250 okay. I know there are incompatibilities we are prepared to work out. The electronics and guages are all going to stay with the 56, only the metal is moving, i am just wondering if the cabs are exactly the same asfar as bolting/mounting/and dimensions. We have taken a look at it and the only difference we see is the F100 has the smaller front windshield, not the wrap around, and has the triangular side windows instead of the straight design on the 56. The firewalls look identical but i am just making sure this will work before we pull that apart.
BTW ill be uploading some pics tomorrow. Also today we noticed as we were pulling parts off of the bed, that the bed has been raised about 5 inches from the stock position. We take a close look and found they have completely redone the rear frame. They have added I beam supports running lateraly and ontop of the actual truck frame. This is hooked to hydrualic pistons and a hinge on the frame where it lifts, which is driven by a PTO off the transmisson. We knew it had a lift on it but until we compared it to the F100 we didnt notice the whole bed sits 5 inches off the stock position. Which looks pretty cool anyway hehe. Be nice when its done, be able to lift that up for show.
I was also wondering if there are any easy install compatible front disc brakes that will fit the truck. My experience with drum brakes tells me i want at least front discs. I have heard talk of ford explorer disc brakes. I am wondering how you adapt these to the axles and how actual "bolt on" it is, if im even on the same wavelenth. Your advice on these small dillemas are appreciated.

You will also have to figure out how to run all the six volt gauges and accessories in your '54 cab. Ford switched to 12 volt in '56.
Good luck!
