I had a similar problem with my 1987 F-150. It turned out to be a broken part on the frame at the steering box. The best description of the feeling is that it was oversteering (not the common kind of oversteering). It is easy to see if this is your problem. Have someone else turn your steering wheel back and forth and watch your steering box. I welded the cracks and thought I had it fixed, it is now broken again. I found your posting while I was looking for a solution.
Get rid of the dumb TTB Crap and go solid dana 44 I had this happen on my F-150 3 times in the last 6 months even with the Superlift Superrunner Steering set up. If you truck is lifted you will keep breaking the TTB over and over and over it never ends it junk
The front end steering checks out OK.....replaced steering gear box...tok for test drive..after 3 miles...... lost power steering......looks like it was the power steering pump.
I am working on it now There is only one kit avalible at this time and it is from Fabritech (Check Jeffs Bronco Graveyard for more info)
I am making my own kit lol. I got a dana 44 Axle Off Ebay with the control arms, Track bar, Steering, and all very cheap. I am a Master Certified Machanic (Just dont do it for a living any more)
From what I have been told the hardest part is mounting the track bar as a Braket has to be made. I am working with Jeff at the Grave Yard on getting me some other parts and Hopping he can get me just the Drop Braket for the Track bar from Fabritech. So far no luck on that.
I took the truck apart but I dont have the axle in all the way yet. Eveything is set but the track bar, and the rest was all very easy and used the exsiting drop brakets for the control arms on the truck now. I did have to get the Early 78-79 lift springs as the Skyjacker I had didnt fit in the new lower axle buckets. All in all I have a total of $750 in it including the axle and new 4.10 gears and carrier, all new bearings and seals in the axle.
I didnt go any higher as there would have been clearenc issues with the front drive shaft and trans cross member. So I am still at 8" of suspension lift and 3" in body. The truck clears 39.5 boggers with no problems so Its not a big deal. I really wanted the extra 2" though
Also It took me 2 full days to get where I am now, and I am thinking maybe another half or so to get the track bar and steering set up right. Then I need an alinment and I am off and running again. I am guessing with the alinment I will have spent about 850$ total on getting it in and running. Not bad and a Friend of mine has a 91 bronco with the Fabriteck kit and he loves it. I drove it on the free way at 80 and it went nice and strieght, I wouldnt dare take my truck with the TTB On the Freeway and no way at 80!
Hope this helps, I cant wait till mine is done and I can try taking it out on the freeway. I suspect that it will be just like my buddies only way cheaper
