Does anyone have any ideas on how to remove painted-on pinstriping? I'm thinking laquer thinner, reducer, polishing compound. Just thought maybe someone here has done it before.
If it was in good shape I'd leave it there, but it has worn off in spots and I'm not really crazy about the color. I'm going to put new vinyl striping on the truck in the same location, but don't want the old painted-on striping to show through the vinyl.
Most striping paints are enamels. Lacquer thinner should take it right off. The problem that may arise is if the underlying paint is an aftermarket enamel job, you'll take it off as well. If its factory paint or lacquer, you should be fine. As the saying goes, try a test application in an inconspicuous area first.....
