im a newby to ford trucks and i wanted feedback from those of you who know about my 1964 pickup. i recently purchased it (yesterday) and need to get it running. how big of an engine can i bolt in, tranny?, recommendations for performance suspension?
There are mounts avainable to bolt in several engine and tranny combos. If they are not available, you could have someone make you some. Basically, the answer is, which engine do you want, and how much money are you willing to spend?
rex's truck. Welcome to FTE! Tell us more about your truck. What engine do you have in there now? What transmission? How big is the budget? Will you do the work yourself or pay someone? What is the end result of this project? You most likley have the inline six engine and threespeed on the tree. But until we know more about this project it is difficult to make recommendations. Personally I think you should get it running, registered, and safe to drive. After you have it running use it for a while to learn what you really want your truck to do.
rex,
Welcome to the site! You've come to the right place. These guys know EVERYTHING about old ford trucks. I have a 64 F-100. I wish I knew about this site during my build,
would have saved me lots o time and $$$. Good luck with you're new toy.

I don't understand what happened to the reply I posted here yesterday?
If that's going to happen why did I bother to write it?
It was one of my usual, comprehensive, pedantic posts starting with a welcome to FTE and then I went on and included frame swapping, available sources for kits, what tranny X member, which engines, & all that good stuff. . . I return here this morning and Whoosh no post???
Beats me!! I would have liked to read it. I enjoy reading all your posts. Many of your posts would make really great technical articles. It is always good to learn from someone that has actually done this work, can speak clearly and with authority on the subject. The details and part numbers are especially good. IMHO!
Happened to me once. I wrote everything in "quick reply" and then by accident, clicked on the "post reply" rather than "quick post reply". That ignored what I just wrote and took me to the reply page. Erasing everything I wrote.
Thanx William & Ken . . for a while there I wonderd if maybe "Old Timers Disease" was catchin' up with me.
I'm sorry it's happened to someone else, but glad to learn there's a real explaination.
You're probably right Ken, I most likely did punch that big blue (POST REPLY) icon in a hurried error. I'm can definitely be remiss about reading small print sometimes like(enter quick reply)for example. Let's see if I can run this system by taking my time, huh?. FBp
