Ballpark Figure

Would anybody care to give me a ballpark figure as to what I should expect to pay to have a complete new exhaust system including headers and cat installed on a 96 Bronco with 5.8 engine. Going to get a couple of estimates and want to have a general idea of what to expect. I'm guessing I could buy the parts for around $700 if I were to do it myself.

Well I bought a complete Bassani exhaust system for my 96/5.8, and I paid roughly a grand *(all stainless steel, headers were ceramic coated, and 3" high flow Y pipe with high flow cat). I figure a bill of 700 is pretty accurate if you go with aluminized components. That wasnt a choice for me, living up here in the northeast. The chemicals they throw down in the winter eat our vehicles (And subsequently the exhaust systems) for breakfast. My system, over a year old on the truck, has not even discolored. It was a great investment if you ask me. I bought all of my stuff from http://www.proficientperformance.com/bassani.htm

Thanks for the link. This is a really nice system, just what I am looking for. Looks like the headers. Y-pipe w/ cat and cat back exhaust system total a little over $1200, not out of line for a nice system like this. I have never installed headers before. The drivers side doesnt look too bad but the pasenger side looks to have pretty limited access. I will take a good look under the hood again. Did you have any problem with the installation?

I actually did not do the installation. I was out of town when all of my stuff showed, and I had a buddy do the install. I dont think he had too hard of a time doing the passenger, but removing the inner fenders will definately make your life easier. You should check out the link in my signature. I think I have a soundclip or two of the complete Bassani system. Most of the clips I have though are with the Gibson catback. One more thing to note, if you decide to buy all of this stuff at once, you should ask for a discount. They will normally help you out when you 'outfit' a complete vehicle.

Must be nice to have a buddy like that. I could sure use one to take care of things for me while I'm on the road for the next three weeks. Change out exhaust, keep grass cut, keep pool clean, finsih railing around deck, fix shed roof ........

I checked out you links, system sounds nice. I hope its not real loud. I use my Bronco for towing a good bit and hoping for a little more low end power. Might change out the intake also.

You should search for 'bassani' in the bronco forum. I know its been talked about before, and there are peoples opinions of the system there. I thought it sounded awesome, had a slight drone at 70+, but nothing major. The girlfriend thought different (thus the Gibson, but its a long story). I like the Gibson system a lot too. Its very quiet in the cab, but has a sweet tone at the tailpipe. I know a few guys in the BB forum who run the Bassani header/Y/Gib-cat setup and like it as well.
