I have rescently purchased a completely stock, running, driving 1961 F100, i have fantisies of restoring this, and am trying to deside wether or not to leave everything original or customize here and there, i am leaning to customization, i want a larger engine, it currently has a 223 ? I-6 with a 3 on the tree, if i were to ugrade my engine, a 351 would be just great, is the bellgousing the same ? what engines will match up ? and what should i look for ?...any input is very much appriciated
the 351 will not fit your bellhousing. try the inline 6 forum for others that will fit. putting a later v 8 in is not all that hard, there are motor and tranny mount kits that will help you do it.

IMO, do both. Leave the basic look and shape of the original truck, but make little touches here and there. Like keeping the original body trim, but shaving the door handles, etc.
I agree the straight 6 is a cool engine with a history, but it just feels a little under powered, especially concidering i am 18, and all about dual exhaust and HP, but im willing to look down the road for this and trying to see what will be better, i am driving an 03 F250 FX4 with a V10 now...dual straights, its really kool, but its just really hard to keep the 6 when i can put and american muscle V8 under the hood
Almost forgot. Work on the heads too. Port match the intake and exhaust manifolds, and open the ports up a little. Should make a noticable improvement.
