slip/clunk update on acceleration
#136
I get a slight shudder in the rear (3.72 LS) on acceleration from a dead stop, all i've noticed so far.
it frightens me what these service dept.'s come up with...airbags? leaf spring bushings? with all the TSB's and documentation regarding the driveshaft and LS axle problems, why won't they address those concerns or rule them out first, then start making up wacky service orders at their own leisure. The old "have to see the forest before the trees" thingy.

Wow, so much learned from this. I just bought a 04 Lariat SuperCab 4x4, 5.4L. It had 6000 miles on it when I bought it. I have noticed a slight slipping sensation and minor clunk. Also, have heard and felt the binding when in reverse. Vehicle gets about 13-14 miles per gallon. I'll be taking it to the shop with Ammo in hand from discussions on this board. Thanks guys.

PC,
I've owned 3 Ford trucks over a span of 20 years and all 3 of them had that damn clunk. Grease it up, it's quite for about 2 months.
Yes, you would think Ford could fix this with a 20 year timeframe!

I'm having the same problem but only in 4 x 4. In 2 wheel drive, there's no slip / clunk feeling or noise. In 4x4, feels like there's slipage and little clunks. All 8 U-joins are new. Had the transfer case open and looks minty. I figure if it's the clutches in the rear diff that it would do it in 2 wheel drive also but it doesn't. Is there clutches in the front diff? This is an '86 F250 4x4 dually.

posted in this thread a few months ago with my clunk problems...
dealership was initially going to do the clutch pack thing (tsb).....
but they looked at it again and devided it was a u-joint that needed to be replaced and a few other things...
so they did this:
1) flashed my PCM up to the latest.....
2) greased slip-yoke......
3) replaced u-joint....
it's been about 8 or 9,000 miles later and the clunk has never returned, not event once......
