Titan All-alum Engine

how does the nissan titan all alum engine deal with the wear factor on the cylinder walls--does this engine use steel liners to offset the wear of the pistons rings?

Down in the text about this engine they indicate it has iron cylinder liners.

The other method for aluminum blocks is some kind of coating on the cylinder walls. There are several methods for doing this, including high silicon, electro coating, and a bunch of others.

Some work well, some have issues. Search under "aluminum engines" and find tons of info. Head gasket issues seem to pop up, as well as complete inability to take overheating, poor coolant or oil vs. an iron engine's "take a licking and keep on ticking".

Glanced at an article in Trailer Life magazine I think this month plus or minus that did a comparo between the Ford, Chebby, Toy and Titan. At least on the technical aspects it looks like the Titan is a winner, way outclassing the American products and for way less money.

This does not bode well for an "All American" Truck market. The Japanese are going to do it to us again by delivering good value at a great price. Later they will stick it to us, but for now, if I was looking for a "half ton" to tow upto 9,000# or so, the Titan looks like the best deal. From the specs it could replace my 250, but I really doubt the long term durability is there, I could be wrong.

I haven't read the article yet, but the specs look very good in comparison. This was a unloaded and towing test, so yes the Titan beat out eveyone towing a trailer, by a lot.

Jim=thanks for reply, but this info did not relate at all to my question about the alum block & wear. I'm not interested in the truck; just info on how it's designed. 85e150-cast iron cyclinder liners like you said--I appreciate the info.
