Titan All-alum Engine

Down in the text about this engine they indicate it has iron cylinder liners.
The other method for aluminum blocks is some kind of coating on the cylinder walls. There are several methods for doing this, including high silicon, electro coating, and a bunch of others.
Some work well, some have issues. Search under "aluminum engines" and find tons of info. Head gasket issues seem to pop up, as well as complete inability to take overheating, poor coolant or oil vs. an iron engine's "take a licking and keep on ticking".
This does not bode well for an "All American" Truck market. The Japanese are going to do it to us again by delivering good value at a great price. Later they will stick it to us, but for now, if I was looking for a "half ton" to tow upto 9,000# or so, the Titan looks like the best deal. From the specs it could replace my 250, but I really doubt the long term durability is there, I could be wrong.
I haven't read the article yet, but the specs look very good in comparison. This was a unloaded and towing test, so yes the Titan beat out eveyone towing a trailer, by a lot.
