From: Indianapolis, but i came from back roads of Southeast Missouri
Is she dead yet???
Howdy folks. My first real truck was my 1995 Ford Ranger Short Bed, standard cab, 4.0, 5speed. I have done the usual by cutting off the exhaust right behing the secondary 02 sensor and putting cold air induction, synthetic oil and prem plugs, etc. Ok. my point is....I have put this truck through total heck. I started driving it off and on when i was 16 and i have had it for two years. The first time i drove it it had 62,000miles on it with a camper on the back and old man smell in it. Now it smells like .... and has 120,000 miles on it. ANd it hauls some carcus too. For Being mostly stock i would have to say it has it's number of backroad victorys under its belt. OK what i am tryign to ask is how much longer shal i give the ole 245. I got some money but can't afford a new ohc but can do some other stuff to ole clampy. With 120,000 with 60,000 being "tough" how much longer yall give her, shall i put money in her or now. I have changed oil regualarly and she runs great. I knwo alot bout cars so i put her on the scanner regualary adn besides the rev limiter being reached she only occasionly has a vale movement. I have heard the 4.0 has lasted up to 220,000 miles being taken care of and also lasted 80,000 being babyed. so how much longer does the ole rain jar got in her yall reckon. Thanks
Even if you've run her hard, with good maintainance, I'd count on at least another 60k. After you get up there in miles, it's hard to know with any vehicle. I've got almost 120K on my 93, bouth it with 90K, and she's running better now than when I got it, thanks to a chip, intake and exhaust. I'm planning to run it till at least 200K.
I think alot depends on oil usage, does it smoke? you could also check the compression and see how much its down from new specs and see if they are still with-in 10psi of each other.motors are all different and some like being ran hard and last just as long, alot depends on how it was originally broken in.
