Different Torque Converters??

I thought I was having problems with my torque convertor, and with my old man working at the Ford dealer now, he got me hooked up with the transmission guy and had him reprogram my transmission, which made a huge improvement. Relating to the T/C, found out that I have a double disc T/C, compared to what is now in the trucks which is only a single disc. Does anybody know anything about this??
From what I know, more is always better, so I'm guessing the double disc is stronger than the single disc. And as I understood it Ford went to the single disc because it was quieter and probably cheaper.
I put a switch to my T/C so I can lock it up manually when I want to, so when I'm sitting at an idle I can lock it up and the truck gets a LOT quieter then when it's not locked up.
I'm just wondering if anybody knows anything why they changed and what advantages/disadvantages I will have with a double disc compared to a single disc.???

Can any ford dealer reprogram your tranny if you ask? or do you have to have an "in" like yourself? My tranny certainly needs help after installing the clamp.

As I understood it you should be able to go to any Ford dealer and have them reprogram it. The tran. guy was going thru his computer and showing me what it will help improve and there was a pretty good list of things, and it made an improvement after he did it. It will probably cost something, $30-$50 ??? I think is what my dad said it would have cost. You'll just have to talk to your dealer and see what they charge. I think it is worth it, it sure acts better and even shifts better. It also helped because he told me my Exhaust Backpressure Valve was plugged (I think that's what it is called). It's mounted on the front of the engine and "measures" the amount of back pressure from the manifold and shifts the transmission accordingly. So if you get on it hard resulting in more backpressure it will shift differently then when you're just putzing around.

For the T/C lock up switch, go to www.dieselinnovations.com and along the left side click on the Tech Info button. There will be a list of directions on different stuff to do, scroll down, it's the towards the bottom, find: Torque Converter LockUp Switch and LED Indicator and click on it and it will give you directions on how to hook it up.
One problem I ran into is trying to get to the wire for the T/C lock up that comes from the transmission, it's buried behind a firewall from the exhaust, and pretty much impossible to get to. So I followed the cluster of wires to the front side of the cab and spliced into the correct wire there. That way I'm not stringing a wire as far either. Make sure you use the purple with yellow tracer wire, because I found another wire that is blue with orange tracer, I didn't try it, but the purple with yellow tracer is correct. You'll have to read the directions and that'll make sense.
Just don't lock up the T/C with it in gear while you are sitting still... you'll kill the engine. That's not from experience.... ok, maybe it is.
